Virginia Giuffre, known for accusing Prince Andrew and Jeffrey Epstein of sexual abuse, has died by suicide.

Virginia Giuffre, who accused Jeffrey Epstein of trafficking her to Prince Andrew and of sexual abuse, has died by suicide at the age of 41. Her family confirmed her passing in a statement released Friday, stating she died at her farm in Western Australia, where she had lived for several years.

"Virginia lost her life to suicide after enduring a lifetime of sexual abuse and trafficking," her family said, according to The Guardian. "It is with completely broken hearts that we share that Virginia passed away last night."

Remembered by her family as a "fierce warrior" in the fight against sexual abuse and trafficking, Giuffre was recognized worldwide for her bravery in confronting powerful figures tied to Epstein’s network. She was described as "the light that lifted so many survivors." Despite the many hardships she faced, her family said, "she shone so bright. She will be missed beyond measure."

Virginia Giuffre, an American citizen, stated that she first met British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell in 2000, who then introduced her to financier Jeffrey Epstein. Giuffre alleged that she was groomed and sexually abused by Epstein and trafficked to his associates while she was still a teenager.

In a 2021 civil lawsuit, Giuffre accused Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting her on three occasions in 2001 when she was 17 years old. Prince Andrew has consistently denied the allegations. The case was settled out of court in 2022 for an undisclosed sum. Although the settlement did not involve an admission of guilt, Andrew expressed regret over his association with Epstein.

Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted in 2021 and sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022 for her involvement in Epstein’s trafficking operations. Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide in a U.S. jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Earlier this month, Giuffre shared on social media that she had only days to live following injuries sustained in a car accident involving a school bus. While her family has not released further details, they confirmed that the emotional and psychological impact of her past experiences played a role in her death.

"There are no words to convey the profound loss we feel today with the passing of our beloved Virginia," the family said. "She was a true hero and will forever be remembered for her extraordinary courage and kind heart."
